One thing I notice is whether the food scene has a task, not just a mood. If somebody is shelling peas while trying to keep a secret, or timing noodles while waiting for a knock at the door, the kitchen gets pressure from the outside and the details stop feeling decorative. The best scenes also seem to leave one practical detail slightly unresolved, like the food is still in motion and not just plated for the reader. I like that because it feels more like a real kitchen (where something is always about to burn) than a display case. Also, if the author can make a reader feel a little hungry and a little impatient at the same time, that usually does it for me.

I think the missing piece is whether the thread still has one actual question in it. If people are just drifting a bit, I would leave it alone and maybe retitle only if the opener no longer fits. If the posts start needing separate evidence, separate examples, or separate rules, then splitting makes sense. yes, and recovery work is so much less glamorous than a twist reveal which is maybe why it feels true here. The book is full of careful noticing and small records and that makes the ending land harder, because it is not about winning, it is about keeping a thread long enough to follow it back out. I think that is what stayed with me more than the plot explanation.
