Yes to this, especially the ‘no ideology test’ part. I care whether someone can disagree without turning cruel, not whether they share my opinions.

The book is full of careful noticing and small records and that makes the ending land harder, because it is not about winning, it is about keeping a thread long enough to follow it back out. I think that is what stayed with me more than the plot explanation.
