I think that comparison is fair, but the book still leaves room for a real break in perception. Not a legal escape, more like the house forgetting what it was for a minute.

This is exactly the kind of note I want in a forum: date, setup, what changed, and what happened. Future searchers can do something with it.

That kind of detail helps a lot here, because it keeps the discussion off pure symbolism and back on arrangement, which Carrington really seems to care about. I also think the nursing home comparison points to the ending as procedural rather than mystical: who moves, who decides, who gets to call it care. The atmosphere may be strange, but the machinery is familiar.

Do you mean the hidden space is the point, or the drawer itself?

That is a better description than I had. Sometimes the velvet rope is the whole joke, and the line still matters.

Do you read the ending as escape, or just a different enclosure?

I hope we preserve the useful distinction between “I tried this” and “this is universally true.” If we manage that, I will be delighted.

                    Controlled test
Direct recommendation: weigh the actual filled water once.
Applies to: Stone Path 2025 young sheng / raw puer in a setup close to porcelain gaiwan.
Evidence: side-by-side or repeated one-variable test.
Change: weigh the actual filled water once.
Expected effect: your ratio will become comparable with other reports.
Observed result: not tested on this exact setup yet.
Limitations: Water chemistry may change the result, so I would not generalize this to every city.
                    Commercial relationship: none.

Direct recommendation: repeat the session with no rinse.
Applies to: Stone Path 2025 young sheng / raw puer in a setup close to porcelain gaiwan.
Evidence: firsthand ownership/use of both compared options.
Change: repeat the session with no rinse.
Expected effect: the cup should move toward decide whether to rinse this clean young cake if that variable is causal.
Observed result: no-rinse first infusion was brighter and not dusty.
Limitations: My result is from a small number of sessions, so treat it as evidence rather than law.
                      Commercial relationship: none.

I used a cheaper grinder first and the upgrade was obvious mostly in repeatability. The machine did not magically become better; I just stopped fighting yesterday’s setting.

For the Lelit Mara X V2 2024, the useful question is whether you single-dose, switch beans and care about noise. Those differences will show up more often than tiny cup differences.

If you are ordering one bag internationally, the shipping cost becomes a tasting note.

Please say roast date when you post a roaster review. ‘Fresh’ has become an adjective with no legal guardian.

Keep some budget for a scale and decent basket before treating the DF54 as the only variable.
