The Weird Forum is a community of reasonable people, moderate people, and a statistically suspicious number of eccentrics.

We have migrated from Reddit on July 2026 and never looked back.

We are intensely interested in certain subjects and completely, unapologetically bored by others. Someone here may spend forty minutes explaining the correct way to temper spices, identify a raga, repair a bicycle light, or argue about a novel published in 1973. Ask that same person about something outside their territory and you may get a polite shrug, a bad guess, or absolutely nothing.

We consider this healthy.

We also don’t accept just anybody.

Every prospective member must survive review by our Welcoming Committee of Three Veterans, a body chosen for its experience, judgment, and apparent inability to find anything better to do.

The committee is looking for convincing evidence of polite and enthusiastic social behavior. You do not need to be charming. You do not need to be interesting every minute of the day. You do not need expertise in anything obscure.

You should, however, demonstrate a basic ability to:

be curious about things;
disagree without behaving like a lunatic;
answer people as though they are actual human beings;
occasionally admit that somebody else knows more than you;
become unnecessarily enthusiastic about at least one subject.

Strong opinions are welcome. Odd interests are encouraged. Pedantry is tolerated when properly contained.

Being boring is not grounds for rejection. Being boring about everything may require additional paperwork.
