Machine / revision: Sage Dual Boiler BES920 2024
Country / voltage: United Kingdom / 230V
Grinder / burrs / setting / calibration: DF54; stock 54 mm flat burrs; 15 marks from burr touch; zero checked after cleaning.
Basket / portafilter: 18–20 g VST-style precision basket; bottomless portafilter (58 mm system where applicable).
Bean / roast date: Ethiopia Sidama medium roast; roast date 2026-07-05.
Dose / yield / extraction time: 18.0 g in, 36 g out, 28 s target/current reference.
Water / temperature: filtered tap, about 80 ppm hardness; 92°C.
Exact symptom: I am deciding whether this grinder is a sensible match for the machine and roast/workflow rather than just technically capable.
Tests already performed: Compared dose workflow, noise, retention, adjustment style, local price and the current grinder’s limits.
Diagnostic photograph or video: photo of the machine label/revision plus a short symptom clip.
The machine side is settled. I need the DF54 question answered by people who have lived with the noise, retention and calibration, not just compared burr diameters. If the answer is boring, excellent. Boring is cheap.
