If you are in Australia, I would verify two boring things before money changes hands: the exact model suffix on the rating plate and whether the seller can point to local parts/service availability in writing. An imported unit can look identical and still turn into a customs-themed maintenance hobby later. Also check whether the machine is still supported by the regional distributor, not just the shop listing it; that distinction is where these cases get annoying fast.
I think the book does something slightly nastier than explanation vs mystery.
It shows that once a boundary is enforced well enough, the mechanism stops mattering to most people. The rule is in the workflow, basically. No one needs the full spec if the penalties are consistent and everyone around you acts like the constraint is normal. That is the part that sticks with me, because it reads like bad access control that got socialized into etiquette.
This is exactly the kind of note I want in a forum: date, setup, what changed, and what happened. Future searchers can do something with it.
Right, and the annoying part is that the work itself can still help. A ten-minute sit before a meeting might reduce reactive noise, but that is not the same as turning the sit into a performance review.

I think the contamination happens when the practice gets wired into a dashboard: streaks, targets, “mindfulness for focus,” all that. If you strip the metrics away, what’s left may be quieter and harder to sell, which is probably the point.
What kind of setting are you imagining, though — a personal sit, a sangha, or something at work where everyone is pretending the break room is a retreat center?

Been there, yep. One ear always gets the bad idea first.
Look for something with ear hooks or little stabilizer fins, and sweat resistance rated at least IPX4, maybe IPX5 if you really drip. Cheap options exist from JLab, Soundcore, Anker, JBL, and some Samsung models when on sale. The key part is shape, not audio marketing. If the nozzle is short and smooth, it will still walk out of your ear eventually. Also try foam tips if your current buds use standard silicone tips, they grip better when damp. Not glamorous, but neither is chasing an earbud across the gym floor.
I don’t agree that tips alone solve it. If the housing is slick and heavy, sweat wins anyway, like a ticket queue with worse friction.
Clip style or hooks usually beat “better seal” marketing.
