      Controlled test
Direct recommendation: repeat the session with 110 ppm filtered tap.
Applies to: Apricot Grove 2025 Ya Shi Xiang / Phoenix dancong in a setup close to porcelain gaiwan.
Evidence: firsthand ownership/use of both compared options.
Change: repeat the session with 110 ppm filtered tap.
Expected effect: the cup should move toward understand which mineral level suits this tea if that variable is causal.
Observed result: tap water produced more aroma and body but slightly more dryness.
Limitations: My result is from a small number of sessions, so treat it as evidence rather than law.
      Commercial relationship: none.

If you mostly drink medium-dark espresso, do not let light-roast internet turn the grinder choice into a laboratory grant.

          Same tea/batch
Direct recommendation: increase leaf slightly to 4.5 g and shorten to 3 minutes.
Applies to: Rain Porch 2026 Assam second flush / black tea in a setup close to ceramic mug with basket.
Evidence: firsthand use of the same Rain Porch 2026 Assam second flush in a closely matched setup.
Change: increase leaf slightly to 4.5 g and shorten to 3 minutes.
Expected effect: fuller aroma and body with less late extraction.
Observed result: not tested on this exact setup yet.
Limitations: Water chemistry may change the result, so I would not generalize this to every city.
          Commercial relationship: none.

One variable only: extend the bloom by 15 seconds. Why: the present agitation can be creating fines migration and choking the bed. Expected result: less bitterness in the last third of the cup. I would not buy anything until that test gives you a direction.

Five people for a new forum is absolutely enough. Five cooks can also produce six opinions about the same pan.

I have used Brazil Fazenda Ambiental Fortaleza on the same Bialetti Moka Express 3-cup / 1Zpresso K-Ultra combination. Change: use the same water but shorten the main pour. Why: pour rate can move drawdown even when the grind setting is identical. Expected result: more even early flow and a sweeter cup as it cools. Keep everything else exactly where it is for one brew.

Late to the opening, but congrats. The place looks clean enough that I’m afraid to set anything down.

Direct recommendation: drop leaf to 6 g.
Applies to: Honey Orchid Ridge 2025 Mi Lan Xiang / Phoenix dancong oolong in a setup close to porcelain gaiwan.
Evidence: side-by-side or repeated one-variable test.
Change: drop leaf to 6 g.
Expected effect: less drying astringency with slightly lighter body.
Observed result: not tested on this exact setup yet.
Limitations: I would stop if the change removes the aroma you are trying to preserve.
                    Commercial relationship: none.

Sure, but leather gloves still get crusty if you overdo conditioner. little goes a long way

Buy two pairs and rotate them, honestly. Then use newspaper or paper towels inside, and set them in front of a fan, not on the radiator.

If they are leather, keep the heat low or you will just make stiff little regret mittens.

Yep, and if the lining is thick, you need to change the stuffing after a bit.

Otherwise it just becomes damp papier-mâché.

Yeah, the radiator move just bakes in the stink. I would stuff the fingers with paper towels first and swap them once halfway through.
