        Machine / revision: Gaggia Classic E24 2024
        Country / voltage: Canada / 120V
Grinder / burrs / setting / calibration: Baratza Encore ESP / DF54; stock 54 mm flat burrs; 17 marks from burr touch; zero checked after cleaning.
Basket / portafilter: stock double basket; stock spouted portafilter (58 mm system where applicable).
Bean / roast date: Honduras Marcala medium roast; roast date 2026-07-05.
        Dose / yield / extraction time: 17.5 g in, 35 g out, 27 s target/current reference.
Water / temperature: RO water remineralized to about 70 ppm TDS; 94°C.
Exact symptom: I am deciding whether this grinder is a sensible match for the machine and roast/workflow rather than just technically capable.
Tests already performed: Compared dose workflow, noise, retention, adjustment style, local price and the current grinder’s limits.
Diagnostic photograph or video: counter-space photo plus a 20-second workflow clip.

I can already hear the answer “spend more on the grinder,” but I would like somebody to put a ceiling on that sentence. This is for the Gaggia Classic E24 2024, not a café.

If you mostly drink medium-dark espresso, do not let light-roast internet turn the grinder choice into a laboratory grant.

The Baratza Encore ESP / DF54 makes sense if you value repeatable adjustment and can live with its workflow. I would not buy it just because the burr size is easier to brag about.

For the Gaggia Classic E24 2024, the useful question is whether you single-dose, switch beans and care about noise. Those differences will show up more often than tiny cup differences.
