A fight scene feels real when somebody pays for every move.
Not just the punches. The breathing. The footing. The bad angle that makes the next strike sloppy. And somebody ought to be thinking about getting out, not performing. If nobody is off balance or a little scared, it starts sounding fake to me.
You may be chasing the wrong coffee. Chelbesa can go sharp if it is just a little too fresh. I have had good lots taste thin for a week and then round out without me touching the recipe. Let it sit a few more days and brew it again before you start buying gear. Cheap fix. The coffee is not always ready when we are.
I never trusted the neat-explanation talk much. Some things work because people keep acting like they work, that is all. Same as a kitchen rule or a dock rule, once enough folks repeat it the rule gets teeth and nobody wants to test it.
What got me here was the camera feeling. If a story keeps looking straight at something forbidden, you stop feeling the rule and start feeling the strain in your own neck. That is a better trick than a puzzle answer. Makes you uneasy and leaves it there.
I agree, with one caveat: make the card plain and ugly enough that you do not feel bad replacing it.

A date box is good. I like a fresh card too, less chance of squinting at old smudges.
If it looks neat, you will use it longer, simple as that.
