One thing I would want to know is whether you can actually test it under load before buying, not just see it heat up and look pretty.

A machine can sit there behaving itself in a showroom and still go weird once steam and brew are both in the picture. If the seller wont let you run a couple of shots and a steam cycle, that tells you something too. I get nervous about any used espresso machine where the only proof is “it powers on” because that is the easy part, not the expensive part!
