Yep, this. I had a cheap pair that lasted fine on the bus, then the gym made them launch out mid-set. Swapping to ones with little wing tips fixed it immediately, which felt rude to my old earbuds but there we are.

Those little hesitations are doing a lot of the work, and they also make the emotional damage feel less decorative, which matters here.
