Every time I see a footnote in that book I feel like a stagehand has entered the room.

If you value fast setup I would pick the first; if you enjoy adjusting every variable the second earns its extra fuss. Neither made bad beans interesting.
The dummy should be treated like a wooden instrument, not an indoor appliance. Stable temperature, air around it and no forcing swollen parts are the basic rules.
Also, a form can look perfect in a video because the camera is not trying to hit you. That is a different kind of room tone.
I think the layout does more than decorate the horror, it stages it. You are not just reading about a disorienting space, you are forced to navigate one.
