Country / voltage: United Kingdom / 230V
Grinder / burrs / setting / calibration: DF64 Gen 2; stock 64 mm flat burrs; 10 on my collar; chirp point marked with tape.
Basket / portafilter: 18 g IMS precision basket; stock portafilter with double spout (58 mm system where applicable).
Bean / roast date: Brazil Cerrado medium roast; roast date 2026-07-20.
Dose / yield / extraction time: 18.5 g in, 42 g out, 32 s target/current reference.
Water / temperature: soft tap water, about 45 ppm hardness; PID set to 93°C.
Exact symptom: Brew side works but steam temperature never rises normally.
Tests already performed: Confirm the symptom from the display and normal controls only, then stop before opening the case Already cleaned the obvious removable parts and repeated the test once.
Diagnostic photograph or video: close-up of the basket/puck plus a short flow video.Before I turn a small repair into an expensive repair, what would you check next on this Sage Dual Boiler BES920 2024? Brew side works but steam temperature never rises normally.

Confirmed solution: The fault was isolated with the case still safe to inspect, the failed wear component was replaced, and the machine passed repeated heat/pressure cycles afterward. I am leaving the original numbers above intact so the next person can see what changed.

Not the exact revision, but I had a closely related setup with the same general failure mode. The thing that saved time was separating the DF64 Gen 2 / puck-prep side from the machine side instead of adjusting both together. Similar experience, not proof for your unit.

Counterpoint: I would not order parts yet. The symptom still overlaps with a calibration/setup problem, and a new part can make the evidence worse.

If you can post the short video mentioned in the opening block, the sound/flow pattern may separate a normal Sage Dual Boiler BES920 2024 noise from the fault you are describing.

The useful documented check is the revision-specific maintenance/service sequence, not a generic espresso-machine video. For Sage Dual Boiler BES920 2024, verify the manual procedure and part number before opening or ordering anything. If the documented test does not reproduce the fault, stop treating that subsystem as proven.

Inference only: because the symptom is repeatable and your listed tests already rule out some obvious causes, I would suspect the narrowest remaining mechanical/setup path before a board-level failure. I would not buy a part from that inference alone.

This is a good example of why the exact revision and test history matter. “My Sage Dual Boiler BES920 2024 is bad” produces twenty theories; the measurements above at least give the theories somewhere to die.
