August 9, 2026 at 6:38 pm #4857Brewer and filter: Hario Switch 03; Hario 03 paper
Grinder, burr and calibration: Timemore Sculptor 078; 078 turbo burrs; setting 8; touch point checked
Bean, roaster, process and roast date: Ethiopia Bombe; SEY Coffee; natural; roast date 2026-07-23
Dose and water mass: 18.0 g coffee; 306 g water
Temperature and water profile: 96°C; Lotus-style remineralized distilled water, moderate hardness / low alkalinity
Pour/agitation schedule: 54 g bloom for 45 s, then two even pours to 306 g; one gentle swirl
Drawdown time: 3:20
Expected and perceived flavour: expected cocoa and red fruit; perceived cup is thin despite adequate extraction time
Changes already tested: tested 2°C lower water temperature; same grind and pouring scheduleI can read specifications myself. What I cannot tell from specifications is which difference survives six months of daily use. If you owned both, please lead with that and tell me what actually changed in the cup or workflow.

Owned both for more than six months. The difference that survived the honeymoon was workflow, not cup quality. One is easier to repeat when half awake; the other gives more room to fiddle. I kept the simpler one.

Used both daily, not just side by side for a weekend. If you value fast setup I would pick the first; if you enjoy adjusting every variable the second earns its extra fuss. Neither made bad beans interesting.

I only own one of the two, so weight this below the dual-owner reports. Mine has been consistent and easy to clean, but I cannot tell you whether the other one would be better in the same kitchen.

The important constraint here is counter space. The technically better option is not better if it lives in a cupboard.

Please include noise in the comparison. Some of us make coffee before the rest of the apartment has consented to being awake.
