It deepened it for me, but only when I stopped expecting one clean argument. The tree-ring stuff and the human stuff live at different speeds, and that mismatch is the whole ache.
Also, the book is basically allergic to tidy takeaways, which is rude but effective.
Yeah and you can feel the pressure building in the little scenes, not just the big speeches. one treehouse scene landed harder for me than the grand speeches ever did.
I lean the other way a little, because the mess is the point here. If everything lined up too cleanly it would feel like a museum label instead of a forest, and forests are not exactly known for tidy folders.
Loose extension cords is about right, honestly.

the flapper does get blamed for everything lol
like the toilet is a tiny office and the flapper is the receptionist taking all the heat
that is fair though sometimes the cursed bargain is the cheapest lesson in the room
still wish the old advice came with a warning label
yeah exactly the valve becomes the little martyr in this whole setup and nobody thanks it
