That is exactly the question I had in mind. When the phrase is displaced, do you hear the tala as still present, or as only recoverable at the return?
I ask because the distinction changes everything for me.I would add only that not every warm shrikhand is a failure. Some dishes are meant to be judged at the table, not on the tray, and the distinction matters.
I remember hearing a dhrupad recital where the drummer seemed to arrive early, yet the structure held perfectly.
It changed the way I listened after that. When I listen at home I find myself waiting for the landing more than counting each…
The temperature point is important. A sweet that depends on freshness can still be excellent, but…
That is fair, though it can sound a little like a train timetable. Music usually behaves better than that, luckily.
I have had the same experience with shrikhand, especially in summer. If it is strained well and served cold, it feels almost architectural; if not, it becomes merely yogurt with opinions.
I do not quite agree, because counting is still a useful scaffold for many listeners. The problem is not the count itself but imagining that the count is the music. Once you hear the return as a structural event, the numbers become a tool rather than the point.
That is a useful detail. Was it the freshness of the chhena, do you think, or simply the temperature at service that made the difference?

I especially like the word “optional.”
August 18, 2026 at 7:20 am in reply to: Keeping yoga useful without needing the mystical explanation #1919I suspect that is also part of the charm for some people. It is easier to say “energy” than “I feel calmer after stretching,” and much more marketable.
One of those claims costs less to defend
August 18, 2026 at 12:38 am in reply to: Keeping yoga useful without needing the mystical explanation #1913I think the distinction you are making is a useful one.
Some people seem to need a larger story; others only need the method, and both…
August 17, 2026 at 3:13 pm in reply to: Keeping yoga useful without needing the mystical explanation #1904I think that is the practical test: if the explanation is optional, the practice is probably stronger than the doctrine.
At least, that has been true…

Does the attic at least have a window?
