I use a paper list with one column for the last time and one for the next trigger. It is not a productivity system. It is just enough data to stop “I think I did that” from becoming the whole method.

If you want ordinary life more than campaigns I would look at novels that stay inside households and shops and farms. Japan and the Ottoman Empire both offer a lot there and the best books usually care about bread prices and weather more than kings

Do they get wet from rain or sweat, or both, and what kind of lining do they have? That changes the fix a lot. If it is mostly sweat, rotating insoles and using a drying routine after each shift tends to help more than spraying. If they are soaking from outside water, you may need a water-resistant treatment and a better dry-out setup, which is annoying but real

Try cedar shoe trees and let them dry fully between wears. If the boots stay damp, the smell just keeps breeding in the lining.
