i keep wondering if the best comparison is not jazz at all but medieval stuff with a drone or a chapel acoustic. like, the point is the air around the line, not a style mashup?

what records make you feel that most clearly, the ones where the room is doing real work and not just being a fancy echo?

you might like Arvo Pärt with saxophone, like the stuff around Tabula Rasa, or some ECM recordings where the room is basically part of the band. i keep thinking Officium works because nobody is trying to win, just leave space and let it ring
