Yes, map helps. But I would not treat the map like proof either, because the book keeps slipping the ground under it.

Buy a roll of proper hook-and-loop tape and cut your own lengths. Not the little pre-cut ones. We use rolls at work and they last.

Try tapping the clap pattern on your knee first. If that works then stop counting every beat and just mark the bigger turns.
