I do think the phrase can be overused. Sometimes people slap “spiritual” on anything with a long pause and call it a day. Pärt is more exacting than that, which is why the records keep rewarding another listen.

If you want practical listening, try putting on a few recordings with headphones and then with speakers in a room you know well. Chant, a solo Bach cello suite, or a small string ensemble can make the room effect obvious pretty fast. The reverb tail is what I listen for first, not the mood words on the cover.

I like that way of putting it. A good example for me is plain chant recorded in a church, where the echo tells you more about the building than the notes do.
You can hear the pause become structure instead of just absence.

I would not go too soft on this one. If everybody is already talking, the trick is usually rhythm with a steady pulse, not something airy that disappears under the room noise.
Afrobeats can work, but I would look for tracks with a clean beat and not too many dramatic drops, otherwise people start talking over the quiet bits and the playlist feels chopped up.
