I need a playlist for work that can lift the mood without turning the office into a concert. Afrobeats welcome, but I am also open to anything with a good groove and no sad breakup sermon every second song.

What do you play when people are tired and pretending they are not?

I would not go too soft on this one. If everybody is already talking, the trick is usually rhythm with a steady pulse, not something airy that disappears under the room noise.
Afrobeats can work, but I would look for tracks with a clean beat and not too many dramatic drops, otherwise people start talking over the quiet bits and the playlist feels chopped up.

That is a useful distinction, and I think you are right about the drops. A song that keeps announcing itself every thirty seconds can be more tiring than silence.
I have had better luck with steady midtempo things, especially when the chorus does not ask for a big…

Yes, the room noise wins if the arrangement keeps apologizing.

Exactly. And one steady bassline can do more work than three clever transitions.

The office is not a club and not a meditation retreat either, which narrows it down nicely. I would favor percussion that stays honest and bass that does not swagger past the filing cabinets. If the beat survives conversation then it is probably doing its job, which is more than I can say for some playlists

Mostly agree, but keep the vocals light or people will start hearing every lyric.
