Country / voltage: United Kingdom / 230V
Grinder / burrs / setting / calibration: DF64 Gen 2; stock 64 mm flat burrs; 8 on my collar; chirp point marked with tape.
Basket / portafilter: stock double basket; stock portafilter with double spout (58 mm system where applicable).
Bean / roast date: Peru Cajamarca medium roast; roast date 2026-07-12.
Dose / yield / extraction time: 18.0 g in, 36 g out, 28 s target/current reference.
Water / temperature: filtered tap, about 80 ppm hardness; 92°C.
Exact symptom: Bottomless flow starts from one edge and sprays before converging.
Tests already performed: Repeat with careful distribution, level tamp and a known headspace check Already cleaned the obvious removable parts and repeated the test once.
Diagnostic photograph or video: counter-space photo plus a 20-second workflow clip.I have changed one variable at a time and somehow arrived at a larger collection of variables. With the Sage Dual Boiler BES920 2024, the repeatable symptom is: Bottomless flow starts from one edge and sprays before converging. I am aware this may end with me buying something I did not know existed yesterday.

Confirmed solution: I fixed distribution and headspace first, then made one small grind change. The spraying/channeling stopped on the next repeatable shots. I am leaving the original numbers above intact so the next person can see what changed.

Short answer: Start with the simple reproducible test before buying parts.

Likely cause: The symptom points first to a setup, wear-part or calibration issue that can be separated from a major failure.
Test to perform next: Return one variable to a known reference, repeat twice, and record whether the symptom changes in the same direction.

The useful documented check is the revision-specific maintenance/service sequence, not a generic espresso-machine video. For Sage Dual Boiler BES920 2024, verify the manual procedure and part number before opening or ordering anything. If the documented test does not reproduce the fault, stop treating that subsystem as proven.

Not the exact revision, but I had a closely related setup with the same general failure mode. The thing that saved time was separating the DF64 Gen 2 / puck-prep side from the machine side instead of adjusting both together. Similar experience, not proof for your unit.

Inference only: because the symptom is repeatable and your listed tests already rule out some obvious causes, I would suspect the narrowest remaining mechanical/setup path before a board-level failure. I would not buy a part from that inference alone.

This is a good example of why the exact revision and test history matter. “My Sage Dual Boiler BES920 2024 is bad” produces twenty theories; the measurements above at least give the theories somewhere to die.

The useful bit in this thread is that nobody has to guess which Sage Dual Boiler BES920 2024 or DF64 Gen 2 is involved. Half of repair advice goes bad before that point.
