September 4, 2026 at 2:24 pm #5013Brewer and filter: AeroPress XL; AeroPress XL paper
Grinder, burr and calibration: Timemore Sculptor 078; 078 turbo burrs; setting 8; touch point checked
Bean, roaster, process and roast date: washed Ethiopia Guji; Passenger Coffee; washed; roast date 2026-08-18
Dose and water mass: 18.0 g coffee; 279 g water
Temperature and water profile: 91°C; bottled low-mineral water, about 45 ppm TDS
Pour/agitation schedule: 63 g bloom for 40 s, then three pours; no stirring after bloom
Drawdown time: 3:05
Expected and perceived flavour: expected clean citrus and tea-like finish; perceived cup is bitter in the finish
Changes already tested: changed filter paper and repeated the same recipeThis is a real purchase question, not an invitation to name every product in the category. I care about the workflow in the title and would love reports from people who lived with both options.

Owned both for more than six months. The difference that survived the honeymoon was workflow, not cup quality. One is easier to repeat when half awake; the other gives more room to fiddle. I kept the simpler one.

Used both daily, not just side by side for a weekend. If you value fast setup I would pick the first; if you enjoy adjusting every variable the second earns its extra fuss. Neither made bad beans interesting.

I only own one of the two, so weight this below the dual-owner reports. Mine has been consistent and easy to clean, but I cannot tell you whether the other one would be better in the same kitchen.

The important constraint here is counter space. The technically better option is not better if it lives in a cupboard.
