        Machine / revision: Breville Bambino BES450 2025
        Country / voltage: United States / 120V
Grinder / burrs / setting / calibration: Baratza Encore ESP; stock conical burrs; 14 on the ESP range; calibration tab in stock position.
Basket / portafilter: 18 g IMS precision basket; stock spouted portafilter (54 mm system where applicable).
Bean / roast date: Guatemala Huehuetenango medium roast; roast date 2026-07-05.
        Dose / yield / extraction time: 18.5 g in, 42 g out, 32 s target/current reference.
Water / temperature: soft tap water, about 45 ppm hardness; PID set to 93°C.
Exact symptom: I am deciding whether this grinder is a sensible match for the machine and roast/workflow rather than just technically capable.
Tests already performed: Compared dose workflow, noise, retention, adjustment style, local price and the current grinder’s limits.
Diagnostic photograph or video: close-up of the basket/puck plus a short flow video.

I am trying to match the grinder to the way I actually use the Breville Bambino BES450 2025: normal mornings, occasional bean changes, and no desire to perform a ritual before work.

For the Breville Bambino BES450 2025, the useful question is whether you single-dose, switch beans and care about noise. Those differences will show up more often than tiny cup differences.

If you mostly drink medium-dark espresso, do not let light-roast internet turn the grinder choice into a laboratory grant.

Keep some budget for a scale and decent basket before treating the Baratza Encore ESP as the only variable.

I have nothing useful except sympathy and a strong suspicion the machine can smell fear. Very normal hobby.

I used a cheaper grinder first and the upgrade was obvious mostly in repeatability. The machine did not magically become better; I just stopped fighting yesterday’s setting.
