Country / voltage: Germany / 230V
Grinder / burrs / setting / calibration: Niche Zero; stock conical burrs; 14 on the espresso scale; calibration dot aligned.
Basket / portafilter: 18 g IMS precision basket; stock portafilter with double spout (58 mm system where applicable).
Bean / roast date: Costa Rica TarrazĂș medium roast; roast date 2026-08-12.
Dose / yield / extraction time: 19.0 g in, 38 g out, 30 s target/current reference.
Water / temperature: filter-jug water from moderately hard tap; factory brew temperature after a 10-minute preheat.
Exact symptom: Trying to reduce scale without making water too soft for stable brewing/taste.
Tests already performed: Measure source water and treated water, then adjust treatment rather than stacking filters Already cleaned the obvious removable parts and repeated the test once.
Diagnostic photograph or video: close-up of the basket/puck plus a short flow video.I am looking for revision-specific experience here. “It probably fits” is how my drawer became a museum of almost-correct espresso parts.

Confirmed solution: I checked the exact revision and water/part specification, followed the manufacturer-compatible procedure, then flushed and verified normal taste/operation before changing anything else. I am leaving the original numbers above intact so the next person can see what changed.

Short answer: Start with the simple reproducible test before buying parts.
Applies to which model/revision: ECM Classika PID 2024.
Likely cause: The symptom points first to a setup, wear-part or calibration issue that can be separated from a major failure.
Test to perform next: Return one variable to a known reference, repeat twice, and record whether the symptom changes in the same direction.
Expected result: If that subsystem is the cause, the symptom should change predictably rather than randomly.
Safety limit: Do not exceed the machine/part manufacturer chemical concentration or improvise acids/solvents around seals and boilers.
Evidence: First-hand owner experience with the same model/configuration; not a manufacturer diagnosis. -

The useful documented check is the revision-specific maintenance/service sequence, not a generic espresso-machine video. For ECM Classika PID 2024, verify the manual procedure and part number before opening or ordering anything. If the documented test does not reproduce the fault, stop treating that subsystem as proven.

Not the exact revision, but I had a closely related setup with the same general failure mode. The thing that saved time was separating the Niche Zero / puck-prep side from the machine side instead of adjusting both together. Similar experience, not proof for your unit.

Inference only: because the symptom is repeatable and your listed tests already rule out some obvious causes, I would suspect the narrowest remaining mechanical/setup path before a board-level failure. I would not buy a part from that inference alone.

This is a good example of why the exact revision and test history matter. “My ECM Classika PID 2024 is bad” produces twenty theories; the measurements above at least give the theories somewhere to die.

If you can post the short video mentioned in the opening block, the sound/flow pattern may separate a normal ECM Classika PID 2024 noise from the fault you are describing.

One small follow-up: repeat the test from a cold start once. Heat can hide or create a fault, and “it worked five minutes later” is useful information.

This is where a cheap measurement beats another theory. Record the same test twice before and twice after the change.

I had a similar issue but not the same revision. Mine ended up being embarrassingly simple, so I would keep the easy checks alive until the evidence kills them.
