I have cables everywhere behind desk and the cheap reusable ties I bought stop sticking after like 3 uses.

Anyone got the simple version that works? I don’t need a 40 dollar “cable management system” lol

same problem here, and the ones with the little teeth usually give up fast.

I’ve had better luck with the wider velcro straps, honestly.

Yeah, Velcro ones last longer in my experience. The cheap plastic reusable ties usually fail at the latch, not the strap itself.

If you want the simple fix, look for the thicker ones with a metal tooth or buckle.

That’s the part people skip, the latch. The strap can be fine while the tiny catch is basically decorative.

yeah, that tiny catch is what lets go first, not the strap itself. metal tooth styles hold up better in dirty spots too, dust doesnt chew them up as fast and you can actually get a few months out of them

That sounds like the sort of thing that becomes obvious only after you’ve bought three disappointing packs. At least the dust is doing something useful for once, I suppose.

That’s usually how these things go, unfortunately.

Have you tried the ones with the sewn loop and hook strip? They’re not elegant, but they do survive a lot of fiddling.

Sewn loop stuff works if the cable bundle stays the same size. once youre adding and removing leads, it gets annoying quick

i’d actually push back a bit on that. the sewn loop ones are fine if you never change the setup, but once you’re adding chargers or swapping devices, they’re a nuisance. the velcro types are uglier maybe, but less annoying day to day.

Have you had to retighten them much or do they just stay put?

if they stay put, i’d say keep them a bit looser than you think. mine slipped less once i stopped cranking them down like i was trying to secure a canoe.

That tracks. over-tightening is the fast way to wear out the latch and the cable jacket both, which is a tidy little double bill

I usually tell people snug enough to hold, not crushed flat, and then leave it alone.

I disagree a little. loose works until the bundle shifts and the whole thing starts sagging again, which is almost as annoying

better to snug it, just not gorilla-tight

Do you need to open them often, or just want them not to slip once set up? That changes the answer a lot, and the wrong kind of tie is a nuisance either way

What sort of cables are they, mostly power or little USB leads? The answer’s annoyingly different.

Mostly power and video cables then, or little USB stuff too? The thicker the bundle the more the closure matters

the metal tooth ones sound like the sweet spot, yeah. not glamorous but if they stop the whole desk collapsing into spaghetti, that’s enough for me.

Same here, and the wide ones seem less fussy.
I think the skinny straps fail just from being bent back and forth a bit too often.

Velcro usually stays usable longer, but it gets bulky if you are bundling a lot of lines.
Still beats a latch that quits after a few pulls, which is just rude.

Exactly. The bulky bit is the price of not replacing them every month

and honestly behind a desk nobody is admiring the finish.

The closure is too flimsy, so it feels reusable until it isn’t.
